NEPHTHYS - NEBET-HET
Egyptian goddess of mourning and funerary rites, of death and protection and rebirth. She is often depicted with her sister Aset (goddess Isis) standing at the head and foot of the sarcophagi. Together they are often seen as darkness and light:
"Ascend and descend, descend with Nephthys, sink into the darkness with the Night-Bark. Ascend and descend. Ascendant with Isis, rise with the Day-Bark."
Pyramid Text Utterance 222 line 210.

Her name means Lady of the Temple or Mistress of the house/mansion, relating to the mortuary temple and also to the sacred heavenly realms beyond death. Nephthys is seen as a supportive cosmic force that protects those during transitions and plays an important role in accompanying Ra on his nightly journeys (Night-Bark) through the underworld to return the Sun. She is the hidden one who gives power to Pharoah and a transformer of souls, thus she is a powerful guide to support our own transitions through life and death and the reclamation of our personal sovereignty.
She may be identified by the glyph upon her head a basket (neb) atop a House (hwt or het mansion), the basket representing Mastership/Divine Power and the House glyph represents building/mansion/temple and in her case as I mentioned about the mortuary temple.
In her role as guardian of sacred spaces, and the afterlife, and with her connection to mourning, and the embalming process, she stands between the realms as liminal guide and protectress as we journey through that which binds us, holds us and protects us.
Through two sacred pilgrimages to Egypt I have fostered a deep connection to Nephthys and she has supported me to transition through so many little deaths that have been necessary to shed what no longer serves within this lifetime and those past. And she held and supported me through the recent death of my mother as I organised her funeral, wrote her eulogy and presided over her burial, she has been a powerful ally indeed, I am deeply grateful for her presence and they way she moves through me as a death walker and funerary celebrant.

Nephthys is another goddess featured in my upcoming Walking the Middle Road- A Journey of Liminality with the Half Moons, an online immersion beginning on 26th Jan. Early Bird Tickets end 11th January, full price the begins. Info and tickets here (And in Insta Bio):
Join me for a journey of integration with the First and Last Quarter Moons....within this liminal space where the light gives way to the darkness and the darkness lends depth to the light, there is an opportunity to explore the many depths and layers of self.
Do you work with Nephthys? I would love to hear about your experiences.
Blessings,
