As we enter a new calendar year, and a new numerological cycle you may be feeling the need to cleanse your home, your magickal space, yourself, your tools and for me personally water is one of my favourite mediums to do this.
Water is aligned to emotions, intuition, flow, ancestors and the Moon, it is a conduit for scrying, for releasing, for dissolution and deeply connected to cycles. It has the ability to carve out new paths and alter direction. We are born in amniotic fluid and 60% of the average human body is made up of water, it is in our blood, lymph, tissues, organs, and bones, our very DNA.
From simple salt water to floral and herbal waters there are many ways to utilise this precious gift to support us in release and renewal.
Some of my favourite botanicals to add to water:
Rose - love, healing, protection, hidden mysteries. Love after all is one of the greatest forms of protection and the Rose is so aligned to cycles and is equipped with horny protection.
Hydrangea - boundary protection, hex breaking, psychic enhancement. Intuition goes hand in hand with protection. It also holds the energy of the Hydra: The multi-headed Lernaean Hydra, is linked to Medousa through Echidna - half woman, half serpent and is a big part of my devotional practices with Medousa. It is also aligned to devotion, love and abundance. Note: this plant contains cyanogenic glycocides so can cause skin irriation and should NEVER BY INGESTED.
Eucalyptus - protection, warding, purification and healing. And to me is the most Australia of all botanical allies for cleansing and releasing. It has the most wonderful clearing scent.
Rosemary - purification, healing, memory, protection, energy enhancement. This wonderful herb is in most folks garden or kitchen cupboard and so is easy to source.
Clove - protection, purification, cleansing. Clove is another ally that is found in most folks kitchens and is also aligned wealth attraction and the enhancement of love and passion.
I could go on but my intention is to offer easy to source botanicals that are readily available to most people. So now on to a few Recipes

When one thinks of Magickal Botanical Water we are often led to Florida Water, so what is it?
There are many different types of Magickal Waters, Florida Water itself was originally created by New York City perfumer Robert I. Murray, in 1808, and was the American version of “eau de cologne”, which was a popular perfume that originated in Cologne, Germany in 1709. It’s name comes from the fabled Fountain of Youth, said to be located in Florida and it’s original flowery fresh scent was used to freshen linens, used as cologne, body wash and added to bathwater.
Most famously it has used in Afro-Caribbean/Creole practices practices also as a purification water for cleansing magickal tools, creating spiritual floor washes, and other cleansing rituals. However as I said previously cleansing waters are used in most cultures, paths and traditions.
Florida Water may be used for:
Cleansing and purification
Ritual offerings to ancestors and deity
Adding to a floor wash, window wash.
Used as a room spray to freshen and purify
Spray to lighten the Aura and for Meditation
Purification of Ceremonial Tools
Utilised for Attracting love
For creating harmony and love within the home
Depending on what you put in it, it may be used as perfume.
There are many variations of this lovely water online. This is mine:
Notes: You may swap ingredients as you wish and replace rosemary as a substitute for any botanical that you don’t have. You may use all essential oils or a combo of oils and fresh/dried botanicals. It will need to be strained if using botanicals that are not in essential oil form. Some traditional recipes add sweet orange too, as we are going into winter, I am using more purifying and clarifying and protective ingredients. If using essential oils only. If you want to utilise it quicker than the week or so period of charging, you can heat the mixture and shimmer it for about 40 minutes, cool and strain.

Bergamot – 10 drops
Eucalyptus (or Tea Tree) 10 drops

2. Pour over Alcohol – visualizing it preserving the mix.
3. Add your Water – feel into the Lunar Energies of the Moon and Ancestors if yiu wish.
4. Take the bowl and repeat your intention, stir with your finger and see the ingredients combing.

Water as a Blessing and an Offering:
Once you have cleansed and reset you may wish to offer water in the form as a blessing or libation or use it to recharge yourself and your space.
Honouring Water - Honouring Flow.
Libations are an important part of my practice, I utilise the pouring of Water for devotional purposes to honour various deities, household spirits, guides, ancestors, elementals and myself. Water is vital for life, so offering Water, in my opinion, is one of the most sacred gifts you can bestow upon that/those you honour and respect. If you follow my blog you will know about the Summer Solstice Bloodwood Water I make, if you haven't seen the post it is here: https://www.sanctumoftherose.com/post/summer-solstice-rite-blood-wood-water
The word libation is derived from the Latin libatio which translates to - sacrificial offering of drink. The offering of Libations is ancient tradition in many cultures, the Egyptians offered Nile Water to honour the dead and also to please various deities. The Greeks had 2 forms of Libations, Choai poured out in its entirety to chronic deity, and Spondai poured out in part to Ouranic deities. These Grecian Libations were usually either watered wine or water with milk and honey. The Romans and early Christians also poured Libations.
As the Moon flows towards Dark, I offer Libations to Hekate Einalian - she of the Sea and Hekate Limenitikos - safe Harbour, in her roll of protection as I surrender to the tides of flow that guide me into deep healing. Hekate is aligned to Roses, particularly the Dog Rose, for this phase of the moon I add dried and spent rose petals and rosehips to water in her honour.
Water can be created and charged under the Full Moon for illuminating truth, supporting abundance and charging things fully. It can be charged under the Half Moon for harmonising energies (my next online offering is in connection with the Half Moons; First and Last Quarters, you can find the info here: https://events.humanitix.com/walking-the-middle-road-a-journey-of-liminality-online-immersion and the Waxing and Waning Crescents for building energy and releasing it. And as noted in my Summer Solstice Bloodwood Water charged by the Sun to infuse it with solar energy and also I might note depending on the time of day, the sunrise can be utilised for new beginnings, the noon sun for full capacity, the sunset for letting go.
The image above was taken by my lovely friend and Soundscape Priestess Tash, from Light and Life of Sounds during a magickal day of water connections. Please note the V shaped stones behind me were arranged there when we arrived, as pretty as they look, honestly I'm not a fan of people piling rocks in water and interfering with the natural flow but the creek was still flowing well and its a wonderful reminder of waters power to move through, over and around all that stands in its path. There are several other posts about water on the Blog, if you feel called to read them.
However you choose to use water, please honour it for it is so very precious.
Many Blessings,
Jenni-Rose
